Mahuika | START Art T-Shirt

The Atua

Mahuika is the atua of fire in Māori tradition. In the well-known pūrākau of Māui and Mahuika, Māui seeks the origins of fire and receives fire from Mahuika's fingernails. The story tells of curiosity, the power of fire, and how fire came to be held within certain trees.
