Māui | START Art T-Shirt

The Atua

Māui is a celebrated ancestral hero and demigod in Māori tradition, renowned for his cleverness, courage and extraordinary adventures.

Among his best-known exploits are fishing up Te Ika-a-Māui (the North Island of New Zealand) using his enchanted fishhook, slowing the sun to lengthen the days, and discovering the secret of fire through his encounter with Mahuika.

Often portrayed as resourceful, mischievous and determined, Māui challenges the limits of what seems possible. His stories have been passed down through generations, reflecting ingenuity, perseverance and the power of knowledge.
