The Whenua

Mōkau holds a special place in Steven's whānau history.

Featuring Maniaroa Marae and the maunga Puketapu, this artwork reflects a strong whānau connection to the whenua — a connection grounded in whakapapa, belonging and generations of shared history.

The urupā at Maniaroa is the final resting place of the Tainui anchor stone, a significant taonga connected to the ancestral journey of the Tainui waka.

Also featured in the artwork are the kaumātua flats, which hold a special place in the hearts of Steven's whānau. They form part of a landscape rich in memories, whakapapa and connections that span generations.
